So Michael Vick is off the hook.
The Philadelphia Eagles' backup quarterback is no longer a suspect in the June 25 shooting outside a Virginia Beach, Va., night spot where he hosted his 30th birthday party.
After all Vick has gone through, after everything he had to do to get back into the NFL, it appeared he might have blown his second chance. But Virginia Beach police have found the shooter, though no charges will be filed due to a lack of cooperation from the victim and witnesses.
Vick insisted all along that he didn't do anything wrong, but that's not entirely true. He was wrong for having the party in the first place.
Now, I don't think young athletes should be hermits. But when you're under as much scrutiny as Vick is after serving 20 months in prison on federal dogfighting charges, it would be more prudent to keep a low profile for a while.
But he goes out and throws a party that is open to the public at $50 per ticket. The soiree was promoted on the Internet and there were fliers promising the appearance of local star athletes like Allen Iverson and DeAngelo Hall.
