Especially when you're expected to be out there, and the union itself isn't talking to you, because you had the temerity to suggest that MAYBE we already make enough money for the job we do. But if you're not out there you don't get the $50/day strike pay you need to pay the mortgage, or rent.

There are some rumblings as to who is getting tapped to replace Michaelle Jean as governor general this fall. Reports say Prime Minister Harper has chosen University of Waterloo president David Johnston to take over Jean's post when her term expires in September. Johnston is a legal scholar who studied at Harvard, Cambridge and Queen's University in Kingston, and served 15 years as principal and vice-chancellor of McGill University. He was named a Companion of the Order of Canada in 1997.

While car insurance went up a lot this year, it should stabalize a little in September. That's when reforms will be implemented to hopefully provide some price stability. Due to approved rate increases over the past year, Ontario's car insurance rates increased 15.2% in the second quarter of this year compared to last year. Quebec's rates dropped 8.2% and Alberta's also dropped slightly.
